On Line Payment

On Line Payment

In this stage of "Your Guide" you will need to think about how you accept payment for the products being purchased from your online store.

When you set up your on line store, you will need to have the ability to accept transactions electronically over the Internet via a secure server. In order for this to happen your business must be able to accept valid credit/debit card payments. This can either be through an existing merchant account (with your Bank) or via an online payment service provider such as VCS. You can also use a secure server (SSL) for accepting credit card payments or make use of the in-built 128-bit encryption security offered with Actinic's e-commerce solutions.

Actinic Shared SSL (Secure Socket Layer)

Nothing is more important for any shop than encouraging visitors to buy - and providing reassurance about security is a key factor in encouraging online sales. Most users regard the golden padlock as the hallmark of secure online transactions, and research has shown that online orders rise significantly when it is displayed. Shared SSL is the simplest and most cost-effective way to offer customers that security.

The Actinic Shared SSL service provides space on a shared secure server for the processing of orders from your Actinic store, at a lower cost than conventional secure server solutions. It can be set up on any Actinic site within minutes, and with no interruption in service.

Actinic Payment Options

There are two ways of taking payments: Online and Offline.

· Online – If you want people to pay for the goods whilst they are online then you need to use a 'Payment Service Provider'.

A Payment Service Provider (or 'PSP') is a third party company who specialise in taking credit/debit card payments online. Your online customers are passed to the server belonging to the PSP when they are ready to pay for their order. They enter their details into the PSP page, and then the PSP contacts their bank, validates the card and takes the payment. The PSP then passes the payment to you at a later time.

· Offline - An offline payment method is a payment method that does not involve any kind of online transaction. There are two types:

o Credit Card: This is the 'Credit card details captured for later processing' method. With this method, customers enter their credit card details into the Actinic store online. These details are then securely encrypted and downloaded with the order. You will then process these credit card details through your credit-card terminal. If you are using this method, then you need to organise security for your store, which is discussed in Securing Your Online Store.

o Non-Credit Card: e.g. 'Cheque on Delivery', 'Cash on Delivery', 'Invoice with Order', 'Credit Card details sent separately' etc. etc. These are payment methods where the payment details are sorted out by directly contact with the customer after receiving the order.

We are currently working on integration with VCS (Virtual Card Services - www.vcs.co.za), and further information will appear here once the integration is complete.
